My Story
Dana Kern (maiden name Dana Small) has spent her entire life in Washington and proudly calls the community home. A 1990 graduate of the local school district, Dana now serves as a Radiologic Technologist and Director at Washington County Hospital. As a divorced mother of two children, Chelsea and Chase, she chose to remain in Washington because her parents lived nearby and provided invaluable support while she raised her family. Dana appreciates that Washington has been a safe place to raise her children, with a strong school system and quality healthcare available close to home. Both of her children had very positive experiences in school, even having several of the same teachers Dana once had—educators she describes as compassionate, dedicated, and deeply involved in both academics and athletics. Over the years, Dana has found housing in the area to be affordable, and employment opportunities allowed her to build a successful career locally. Today she lives just outside the city limits but still within Washington County. Looking ahead, Dana believes the community could become even stronger by addressing the need for more affordable housing, improving local roads, and adding more entertainment and restaurant options to attract and support younger families returning to the area.
